Driving Licence in Tamil Nadu (Chennai)

Hi friends,

Follow this procedure for getting your Driving Licence in Tamil Nadu easily.No need of an agent at all.

First of all before you get your personal permanent licence you must get your learner’s licence.

The Procedure is as follows:

1.       Download or buy FORM 2 either from the website or from the RTO office respectively. The website link for downloading is: http://www.tn.gov.in/sta/form2.pdf

2.      Fill in all the necessary details in the form.

3.       Stick a passport size Photograph in the asked place.

4.       Enclose a Photocopy of the Address Proof, Date of Birth as told in the FORM.

5.       Carry the originals with you while going to the RTO and also carry extra at least 3 Passport size Photographs.

6.       Pay the Amount of Rs.60 in the counter and stick the receipt called RTO’s Copy on the FORM and have the remitter’s carefully with you.

7.       Get the Inspector’s Signature and attend the online test. (Get 6 out of the 10 questions correct).

8.       Show the remitter’s copy receipt while getting your Learner’s Licence on the designated date.

After this you are eligible to drive the vehicle as told in the licence with an L board or a pillion rider with a proper approved licence.

After 1 Month and before 6 Months after u get your learner’s licence you must get a permanent licence.

The Procedure is follows:

1.       Download or buy FORM 4. The link is: http://www.tn.gov.in/sta/form4.pdf

2.       Fill in all the necessary details.

3.       Stick a passport size photograph in the particular place and carry extra too.

4.       Have few copies of the Address and Date of Birth proof, just in case.

5.       Carry your learner’s licence(original) and enclose it with FORM. Also enclose the authorization certificate from the vehicle owner (if you are not the vehicle owner) with a Rs. 5 court fee stamp, RC copy and Insurance copy. It is COMPULSORY.

6.       Pay the amount of Rs.350 in the counter and again stick the RTO’s copy on the FORM and have the remitter’s copy with yourself safely.

7.       Get the Inspector’s Signature and go to the place for the test. Have a vehicle (obviously) for the test.

8.     After the test come back immediately to the RTO office and go to the ELCOT room with the FORM and remitter’s copy of the receipt.

9.       Wait just for a maximum of 1 Hour. YOU WILL GET YOUR LICENCE IMMEDIATELY.

10.       For people above the age of 50 a medical certificate has to be attached in the following way. By downloading or buying FORM 1A (http://www.tn.gov.in/sta/Form1a.pdf) as an extra paper with the original form.
